Patients – Oral sedation

This is medication (again from the benzodiazepine family) that is used to calm the patient is taken orally.

The same assessment, monitoring and precautions that are indicated for IV sedation are required and the dentist will often want to place a cannula as soon as you are relaxed and less worried. This method of sedation is less predictable than other methods.

All patients receiving conscious sedation for dental treatment require an individual assessment prior to the sedation appointment by a dentist with postgraduate training and any questions can be answered at this appointment.
